Biography

Terry Rout is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Computing and Information Technology at Griffith University, Queensland, and is associated with the Software Quality Institute at the University. He is Deputy Chair of Committee IT/15 of Standards Australia, dealing with Software Engineering Standards, having been Chair of the committee from 1993 - 1999; he has been a member of the Australian delegation to the International Committee on Software Engineering Standards since 1992, and was Head of Delegation from 1994 - 1999.  He is the overall Project Editor for ISO/IEC TR 15504 - Software Process Assessment.  He is also convenor of an SC7 Special Working Group on Terminology in Software Engineering Standards.  He is a member of the Executive Committee of the IEEE Technical Committee on Software Engineering Standards, and of the IEEE Technical Council on Software Engineering (TCSE) Software Process steering committee.

He has been a member of the international Management Board for the SPICE (Software Process Improvement and Capability dEtermination) Project since its inception, working towards the development and validation of an international standard for software process assessment. He is Manager of the Southern Asia Pacific Technical Centre for the SPICE Project, established to provide a regional focus for this work, and is the regional coordinator of the SPICE Trials. In 1996, he was awarded a visiting fellowship at the European Software Institute, Bilbao, Spain, to support the European contribution to SPICE.

His initial education was in Biochemistry, and this has been of value in his position as a member of the Australian Government Committee on Computer Controlled Therapeutic Devices. Prior to his appointment to the University in 1990, he worked in the Department of Employment, Education and Training, holding positions of local project manager and team leader in the Job Seeker Project Team.
